Malaysian palm oil futures fell 9.04% over the week, their steepest weekly decline since mid-December 2024, as competing soybean oil prices and crude oil weakened. The January contract dropped 2.72% on Friday to 4,258 ringgit per tonne, while a weaker ringgit provided only limited support.
Lower soybean oil prices increase competition for vegetable-oil demand, while weaker crude reduces palm oil's attractiveness as a biodiesel feedstock. Both pressures are bearish for palm oil prices.
