Peru’s Ministry of Production extended exploratory fishing for samasa (white anchovy) by larger purse-seine vessels beyond five nautical miles offshore. The season can continue until IMARPE sets a catch limit, replacing the previous 15-day cap; landings had reached 2,479 tonnes by November 1, mostly adult fish.
The extension may increase samasa landings and availability for fishmeal production, adding supply to a market facing El Niño-related uncertainty. Any price effect depends on the eventual catch limit and resource conditions.
