Egypt produces about 1.6 billion chickens annually, and poultry producers are facing losses as supply exceeds demand. Union head Mahmoud El-Anany said the estimated production cost is nearly EGP 80 per kilogram, compared with a selling price of about EGP 74, while higher dollar and fuel costs are raising expenses for feed, medicines, and other inputs.
He described the impact of the “Tayyibat” system on the poultry sector as marginal.
Oversupply is weighing on poultry prices even as higher feed and operating costs squeeze producer margins. Continued losses could prompt producers to reduce output, eventually tightening chicken and feed demand.
