Lean hog futures were down 17 cents to $1.35 across the front months at Friday midday. The USDA national base hog price was reported at $44.96, up $4.67 from the previous day, while the CME Lean Hog Index fell $1.07 to $62.86 on November 4.
Lower futures and a declining cash index indicate near-term price pressure for hogs, although the reported rise in the national base price is a counterpoint. The update provides no new supply or demand driver.
