BioPower Energy signed an October 16 memorandum of understanding targeting at least 1 million metric tons, or 39 million bushels, of annual corn purchases from U.S. suppliers. The corn would supply 50% to 100% of a planned biorefinery’s feedstock needs in the United Arab Emirates; the facility is not yet operating.
If realized, the planned procurement would add a sizable source of U.S. corn demand, supporting prices. The effect depends on construction and eventual operation of the biorefinery, since the agreement is for future purchases rather than current shipments.
After 729 past bullish trade events, Corn moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (56% higher; middle half -1.1% to +1.8%), and +0.5% over 20.
