Economy Minister Luis Caputo ruled out devaluing the peso in remarks to industrial and economic groups on November 3 and 4, saying a devaluation would impoverish wage earners. The wholesale dollar closed at 1,545.50 pesos on November 5, below the exchange-rate band ceiling; country risk ended at 927 points and reserves were below $50 billion.
The government’s stated commitment to the existing exchange-rate band may limit expectations of peso depreciation and curb the local-currency cost of imported feed. That stance is bearish for USDARS, although it does not itself change commodity supply.
