The Mexican peso weakened after Banxico unexpectedly cut its policy rate by 25 basis points to 6.25%. The exchange rate briefly reached MXN$18.83 per dollar, then eased to MXN$18.76, a 0.71% depreciation against the previous close.
The unexpected cut narrows the peso’s yield advantage and may reduce support from carry-trade inflows, weighing on the currency. Peso weakness makes imported feed and other commodities more expensive in Mexico.
