The European Fat Processors and Renderers Association called on EU regulators to allow ruminant processed animal proteins in feed for non-ruminants, a use currently prohibited. EFPRA says lifting the restriction could make about 1.2 million tonnes of rendered-animal protein available to feed producers as the aquaculture sector seeks alternatives to fishmeal.
Allowing more rendered animal protein could expand feed-protein supply and reduce demand pressure on fishmeal, potentially weighing on fishmeal prices over time.
