Mexico confirmed H5N1 avian influenza at a commercial egg farm in Umán, Yucatán, where 862 birds died in a flock of 225,860. Authorities quarantined the farm, ordered the flock depopulated, and established a 10-kilometer risk perimeter; officials said the outbreak does not threaten national egg or chicken availability.
Depopulation removes some laying capacity, but the affected farm represents only 0.09% of Mexico’s poultry inventory and authorities expect no national supply disruption. Any price effect is therefore likely negligible and local.
