The Mexican peso gained about 0.68% against the dollar on Friday, trading near 18.62 per dollar after a sharp decline the previous day. Analysts criticized Banxico’s 25-basis-point rate cut, saying the narrower interest-rate differential and rising inflation could add pressure to the exchange rate.
A narrower rate gap between Mexico and the United States may weaken demand for peso-denominated assets and make imports more expensive in local currency. The peso’s session rebound only partly offsets that underlying risk.
