Canada’s annual canola-crushing capacity has grown from about 11 million to 15 million tonnes as companies built new plants and expanded existing facilities. Processing volumes also rose, reaching a reported 12.9 million tonnes by early 2026, and additional capacity is expected to intensify competition among crushers for domestic canola supplies.
More crushing capacity can increase domestic demand for canola seed while adding potential supply of meal and oil; the net price effect depends on how quickly production and demand absorb the extra processed products.
