Latvian authorities intercepted a batch of frozen Moroccan mackerel after tests found histamine levels as high as 1,518 mg/kg, compared with the 200 mg/kg limit used in the inspection. The goods were blocked before sale, and the case was reported to the EU’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed.
The affected batch is removed from the market, but the report gives no indication that the quantity is large enough to materially change fish supply or prices.
