Australian oat and hay exporters are seeing rising demand from Asia's expanding middle class for oats as a healthy wholegrain used in porridge, noodles and flavoured products. DAFWA's Rob Loughman said the health-food trend could support longer-term demand and stability in the historically volatile oat market.
He also expected more demand for export hay as Asian dairy and feedlot beef industries grow.
Steadier export demand for Australian oats from health-food buyers could firm oat prices over the longer term. Growth in Asian feed demand for hay also supports export pricing.
After 40 past bullish trade events, Oats moved a median -0.6% over 5 sessions (40% higher; middle half -2.8% to +1.7%), and -3.2% over 20.
