Argentina’s Federal Fisheries Council unanimously set 2026 maximum permissible catches of 277,200 tonnes combined for anchovy and mackerel, up 1,000 tonnes from the previous year. The limits allocate 225,000 tonnes to anchovy and 52,200 tonnes to mackerel, based on scientific assessments by the National Institute for Fisheries Research and Development.
The catch limits define the potential supply of fish used in fishmeal production, although the small year-on-year increase suggests little change in availability. The decision is therefore a modestly bearish signal for fishmeal prices, all else equal.
