Ukraine supplied 69,830 tonnes of barley to the EU in the first 17 weeks of the season, 3.7 times the volume a year earlier, making it the bloc’s top supplier for the first time. The increase reflects grain flows shifting from sea routes to land; despite the EU-bound rise, Ukraine’s total barley exports were down 56.4% and its overall grain exports fell 32.1%.
More Ukrainian barley arriving in the EU adds nearby supply and may weigh on prices in that market. However, the volumes remain modest and the land-route shift has not offset Ukraine’s broader export decline.
