Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko was briefed on challenges in completing and commissioning the Nezhinsky mining and processing plant. The first and second phases are operating, with the complex reported at a design rate of one million tonnes per year; about 400,000 tonnes of potash fertilizer have already been produced and exported.
Full operation would add exportable potash supply as new capacity also comes online in Russia, Canada and Laos, putting downward pressure on global potash prices. The plant’s remaining work and commissioning challenges could limit how quickly that supply reaches the market.
