The Fertilizer Institute says Belarus is unlikely to significantly displace Canada as the main source of U.S. potash imports, despite a purchasing agreement announced by President Donald Trump. Belarusian exports are largely committed to existing destinations, and the country lacks infrastructure tailored to supplying the U.S. market.
The agreement is unlikely to redirect enough Belarusian supply to materially change U.S. import availability or reduce reliance on Canadian potash. The near-term price effect for U.S. buyers is therefore likely limited.
