Bangladesh plans to build a urea plant in Bhola with capacity of 1,700 tonnes per day, a TSP plant in Chattogram producing 400,000 tonnes annually, and a UF-85 plant in Narsingdi producing 24,000 tonnes annually. The Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation aims to raise fertilizer output to 2.7 million tonnes over the next three to five years, reducing import dependence; current domestic TSP and DAP production meets only a small share of demand.
If implemented, additional local urea and TSP capacity could reduce Bangladesh’s reliance on imports and ease domestic fertilizer supply constraints. The plants are planned rather than operating, so any price effect is prospective and likely gradual.
After 34 past bearish policy events, Urea moved a median -0.8% over 5 sessions (38% higher; middle half -3.3% to +1.8%), and -4.5% over 20.
