The dollar rose 0.68% to R$5.4886 on November 5 as a sharp fall in US technology shares increased risk aversion and pressured emerging-market currencies. The real was supported in part by high local interest rates and rising commodity prices, while investors also weighed Brazil’s fiscal outlook and the central bank’s decision to hold the Selic rate at 13.75%.
Risk aversion supported the dollar against the real, which can increase Brazilian buyers’ local-currency costs for imported feed inputs. High interest rates and commodity-price support partly cushioned the currency pressure.
After 301 past bullish macro events, Brazilian Real (BRL per USD) moved a median +0.4% over 5 sessions (57% higher; middle half -1.2% to +1.7%), and +1.0% over 20.
