Ukraine and Russia could fail to supply around 2–2.5 million tonnes of sunflower oil to global markets if key Black Sea and Azov Sea ports are not restored within the next two to three months. Export constraints are also curbing processing and could leave 5.8–5.9 million tonnes of sunflower seed in carryover stocks by the end of the 2026/27 season.
Alternative suppliers, including Argentina, Kazakhstan and Bulgaria, may gain opportunities as Black Sea shipments remain constrained.
Reduced export capacity could tighten global sunflower oil availability and support prices, while leaving more seed stranded in the region. Faster shipments through alternative routes and from competing suppliers could partly offset the shortfall.
