Natural gas prices fell last week as temperatures turned milder across much of the US. The EIA reported a 70 Bcf storage injection, above the 68 Bcf average, leaving inventories about 13% above the five-year average.
The September contract settled at $2.579/MMBtu and the October contract at $2.269/MMBtu.
Milder weather cut demand for gas-fired cooling generation and storage ran ahead of normal, which weighs on gas prices. For feed buyers, cheaper gas lowers ethanol and fertilizer input costs over time, which can affect DDGS and nitrogen prices.
After 104 past bearish weather events, NATGAS moved a median -7.8% over 5 sessions (22% higher; middle half -14.8% to -0.8%), and -3.3% over 20.
