Argentina’s foreign-exchange market is set to resume trading after five days without local activity, amid political uncertainty and a sharp decline in Argentine assets. The peso-dollar exchange rates were broadly stable in the latest session, while the country-risk index rose 73 points to 925 basis points.
Uncertainty may increase demand for currency hedges and put upward pressure on the peso-per-dollar exchange rate, though analysts do not necessarily expect a sustained rise. A weaker peso could increase the local cost of imported feed and farm inputs.
