The Mexican peso depreciated 0.99% to 18.7499 per dollar on Thursday after Banxico unexpectedly cut its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to 6.25%. Analysts said the peso could trade between 18.60 and 18.88 per dollar in the short term.
The rate cut narrows the yield advantage of Mexican assets and reduces the appeal of carry trades, potentially encouraging capital to move into dollar assets. That pressure can lift USDMXN and raise the cost of dollar-priced feed imports into Mexico.
