The Purdue University/CME Group Ag Economy Barometer rose three points to 126 in October, as its current-conditions index improved by 16 points while future expectations slipped by two. The survey coincided with USDA ARC and PLC payments; farmers’ financial performance and capital investment indexes improved, but confidence in trade policy and the longer-term outlook remained weak.
Farm-program payments may support producers’ near-term cash flow, while trade-policy uncertainty and elevated costs can discourage investment and limit future production or input demand. The survey points to modest support for farm sentiment rather than a clear change in commodity supply or prices.
