Peru’s FONDEPES will provide nearly S/ 11 million in loans at an annual interest rate of 1% to artisanal fishers and aquaculture producers preparing for the effects of El Niño in 2026–27. The emergency plan allocates S/ 5.99 million to artisanal fishing and S/ 4.87 million to qualifying aquaculture producers.
The subsidized credit is intended to help producers maintain or restore operations if El Niño disrupts fishing, aquaculture or distribution. It may cushion local supply impacts, but the funding announcement does not establish a direct commodity-price effect.
