Banxico cut its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to 6.25%, contrary to market expectations, in a decision opposed by two deputy governors. The bank called the move a one-time adjustment, raised its fourth-quarter 2026 inflation forecasts, and said it expected to keep the rate at the attained level for an extended period.
Lower rates can weaken the peso and increase the local-currency cost of dollar-priced imports, while the bank’s guidance may temper expectations of additional easing.
