Lean hog futures fell on Wednesday as the USDA national base hog price and CME Lean Hog Index declined. September U.S. pork exports totaled 514.5 million pounds, down 5.7% year over year, while the pork cutout value fell $3.14 to its lowest level since December 2020 and slaughter was slightly above the prior week.
Weakening cash and cutout values, alongside lower year-over-year pork exports, point to softer demand and pressure hog prices. Slaughter running above last week modestly adds to near-term supply.
