ICE canola futures fell to a four-month low on Thursday as speculative long liquidation continued, with January futures down C$15.10 to C$753.20 per tonne. Weakness in soybeans, soybean oil, European rapeseed and palm oil added pressure, while Saskatchewan’s final crop report estimated canola yields at 38.3 bushels per acre, below Statistics Canada’s 41.9-bushel estimate.
Liquidation and weakness in competing vegetable oils pressured canola prices; the lower provincial yield estimate may temper that pressure by pointing to a tighter crop than the national estimate suggests.
