The Port of Townsville shipped its first bulk sorghum cargo, about 27,000 tonnes from North Queensland, to China. The shipment establishes a new bulk export route for regional producers and follows a recent chickpea shipment from the port to Pakistan.
A new export pathway gives North Queensland sorghum producers access to an additional buyer and could support local demand and prices. The cargo is modest relative to global supply, so the broader price effect is likely limited.
