Many Ukrainian sunflower farmers are postponing harvest or leaving crops in the field until spring because of low purchase prices, full elevators and high drying costs. As of early November, 89% of the sunflower area was harvested, totaling 10.3 million tonnes, with notable unharvested areas in Donetsk and Kharkiv.
Delayed harvests and seed quality risk could tighten Ukrainian sunflower seed supply later in the season, supporting meal and oil prices. Storage limits and low farm-gate prices, however, point to near-term pressure on seed values.
