UK retail egg lines rose as much as 19.2% since 5 October, with a fifth of 134 egg lines seeing inflation in the last month. The Grocer attributes the increases to commodity pressures, with compound feed prices for laying hens up about 5% to 10% in the second half of the year.
Rising laying-hen feed costs, the largest cost for egg producers, pass through to retail prices and reflect firm feed ingredient prices. This supports demand for feed inputs in the UK layer sector, though the effect is a cost pass-through rather than a new supply shock.
