The Baltic Exchange dry bulk freight index rose 1.7% to 2,740 points on Thursday, its highest since October 13, for a second straight session. The Capesize index climbed 2.3% to 4,191 points and the Panamax index rose 3.3% to 1,956 points, while the Supramax index fell 0.6% to 1,824 points.
Higher dry bulk freight rates, especially for Panamax vessels that carry grain, increase the landed cost of bulk feed ingredients. The gain is small and concentrated in larger ships, so the price effect is minor.
