The B.C. Federation of Labour has urged affiliated unions not to handle certain coal, petroleum coke and LPG cargo tied to Trigon Pacific Terminals in Prince Rupert, where ILWU Local 523A workers have been on strike since October 2.
Rail traffic carrying coal and petroleum coke to the terminal fell 48% during the strike, and shipments from its largest customer, Conuma Coal, dropped 64%.
Disruption at a Prince Rupert export terminal reduces coal and petcoke throughput on the West Coast, a modest logistics constraint with little direct bearing on feed grain or oilseed flows. Neighbouring propane terminal operations could also be affected if the dispute spreads.
