Fearnleys reported that the capesize market rebounded from a slow start to the week as large cargoes emerged in both the Atlantic and Pacific. The Baltic C5 West Australia to Qingdao route rose about 3.5% to $13.69/t and the Atlantic C8 round voyage jumped 15.89%.
Panamax rates also recovered on Australian coal and North American grain demand.
Higher dry bulk freight raises the landed cost of grain and oilseed imports into Asia and Europe, which feeds into FOB and CIF prices for feed ingredients. Fearnleys sees further short-term upside in capesize and panamax rates, though sustained gains depend on more new Atlantic cargoes absorbing spare tonnage.
