The Peruvian Navy ordered the closure of 20 ports and terminals along the central coast, including Chimbote, Samanco, Casma, Huacho and Chancay, because of light to moderate swells expected through November 8. The National Emergency Operations Center and the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation recommended suspending fishing, aquaculture and related activities.
The remaining 106 Peruvian ports stay open.
Halted anchovy fishing and port closures on the central coast can delay landings that feed Peru's fishmeal output, which is already tight after the anchovy season cancellation. Shorter supply from Peru would support fishmeal prices.
