The rupiah closed 86 points, or 0.47%, stronger at Rp18,082 per US dollar on Thursday, up from Rp18,168. ICDX analyst Muhammad Amru Syifa attributed the gain mainly to broad US dollar weakness after the US midterm elections, lower US Treasury yields, and falling oil prices.
A firmer rupiah eases the cost of dollar-denominated feed and energy imports for Indonesian buyers. Lower oil prices also reduce import energy costs, though the currency remains near historic weakness.
