Kenanga Research expects crude palm oil to hold near RM2,400-2,500 per tonne in Q1 2018 before weakening to RM2,200-2,400 in Q2 and Q3. It projects stocks to decline until February and then rise, with production possibly matching or exceeding the 2015 high.
The forecast of rising production and stock build later in 2018 points to softer palm oil prices in the middle of the year. Plantation stock performance tracks these price expectations.
