Cenovus will close its ethanol plant just east of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, on Dec. 15, 2026, after an economic review.
The plant took about 350,000 tonnes of grain a year and produced 130 million litres of ethanol plus about 130,000 tonnes of distillers grains.
Losing a regional ethanol grind removes a local delivery point for wheat that misses milling grade, rye and triticale, pressuring local feed grain basis and farm-gate prices. Distillers grains supply from the plant also falls, tightening local feed ingredient availability.
After 137 past bearish logistics events, Wheat (SRW) moved a median -0.3% over 5 sessions (44% higher; middle half -2.2% to +1.0%), and +0.0% over 20.
