A highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N9) outbreak was confirmed at a 91,000-bird layer farm in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi, South Korea, the first poultry case of the 2026/2027 winter season. Authorities culled the flock, launched investigations, and imposed a 24-hour nationwide standstill order on poultry farms, vehicles and facilities.
Layer farms are a major source of egg supply, and the outbreak raises the risk of wider culls that could tighten egg supply and lift prices. For feed buyers, a sustained layer outbreak would cut domestic feed demand modestly, but the impact on Korean feed-grain demand is small relative to global markets.
