SD Guthrie's chief executive urged the Malaysian government to temporarily waive the crude palm oil export duty to help the industry clear a supply glut. Malaysia's export duty makes its CPO costlier than Indonesian supply by an estimated RM700 to RM900 per tonne.
The Malaysian Palm Oil Board spot CPO price was RM4,292 per tonne on November 4.
A duty waiver would cut Malaysian export costs and could help clear surplus stocks, but it would add to global palm oil supply and put downward pressure on prices. The proposal is not yet approved.
After 400 past bearish policy events, Palm Oil moved a median -0.0% over 5 sessions (49% higher; middle half -1.3% to +1.1%), and +0.2% over 20.
