BRS Shipbrokers' weekly dry bulk newsletter, dated 29 October 2026, reports that Chinese export cargo volumes rose 18.5% year on year in January to September 2026, reaching 229.3 million tonnes. Imports rose only 1.6% to about 1.74 billion tonnes over the same period.
Export growth added more tonnes than imports, and outbound industrial cargoes are providing work for smaller bulkers while bauxite supports larger ships.
Stronger Chinese export tonnage adds seaborne demand for smaller bulkers, which can support freight rates across dry bulk routes, including grain shipments. Higher freight costs raise landed costs for feed ingredients imported into Asia.
