China's national average hog price fell to 9.04 yuan/kg on 2 November, and 17 of 18 listed pig producers lost money in the first three quarters. The sow herd fell to 36.02 million head at end-Q3, below the policy baseline, while egg prices rebounded to 4.07 yuan/kg in late October after falling earlier.
Sow herd reduction will tighten hog supply only from 2027, so pork prices are likely to stay low and range-bound near term. Lower hog prices cut the outlook for feed demand, including corn and soymeal, in China.
