Vietnamese livestock producers face falling prices ahead of the 2027 Lunar New Year, with live hog prices in some areas down to 43,000 VND per kg in late October, about 40,000 VND lower than at the start of the year. Chicken prices also fell more than 20% year to date, and feed costs rose about 20% since early 2026, leading many farms to cut herds or pause restocking.
Lower Vietnamese animal prices combined with high feed costs squeeze producer margins and reduce future demand for feed ingredients such as corn and soybean meal, since herd cuts shrink feed volumes. Continued herd reductions could eventually tighten pork and poultry supply, but near term the effect is weaker feed demand in Vietnam.
