Canadian fertiliser producer Nutrien missed Wall Street third-quarter profit expectations, weighed down by surging sulfur feedstock costs in its phosphate business and lower nitrogen volumes. Its phosphate adjusted EBITDA fell 93% to $8 million, and it will shut its higher-cost White Springs plant in Florida in Q2 2027 as mine reserves deplete.
It raised the low end of its potash volume target and cut its retail EBITDA outlook.
High sulfur costs squeeze phosphate production, tightening DAP and TSP supply and keeping phosphate fertiliser prices elevated. Closing a high-cost plant removes capacity, which supports phosphate prices into 2027.
