Representatives from about 30 Mississippi River cities met in Baton Rouge for the MRCTI's 13th conference, attended by over 170 people. Corn Belt ports and five Louisiana river ports signed a cooperative agreement to unite along the river.
The initiative seeks federal recognition for ports between St. Louis and St. Paul and calls for federal policy focus on the river, which could eventually support barge logistics for grain shipments. The effect on grain prices is limited near term.
