Scottish authorities confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 at a poultry farm near Biggar on 2 November. A 3 km protection zone and 10 km surveillance zone were set up, restricting poultry movements and related products within them.
A single farm outbreak in Scotland is a small local supply event with limited global impact. It does add to the broader avian influenza pressure on poultry supply in Europe, which can support poultry prices and feed demand for chicken-based products locally.
