The Polish Fish Processors Association warns that limited marine raw materials and record fishmeal and fish oil prices are raising aquaculture and processing costs. It links the problem to a strong El Niño, which NOAA says has a very high chance of reaching extreme strength between October 2026 and March 2027.
Tight fishmeal supply from El Niño-hit Peru keeps feed costs high, and the association expects these costs to push salmon prices higher. Feed buyers should plan for sustained fishmeal premiums.
