Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says trade talks with the U.S. have become more intense after a weekend call with President Trump, and that Washington has dropped demands that crossed Canada's red lines. Trump said a deal is coming very soon, but tariffs on both sides remain in place until terms are agreed and published.
A deal could lift the 50% U.S. tariff on about $27.6 billion of Canadian goods and remove Canada's counter-tariffs, which would ease trade frictions for agricultural and feed-related exports. Until terms are public, the tariff uncertainty keeps the Canadian and U.S. trade outlook unsettled.
