Red Wing Grain and the city of Red Wing, Minnesota, will receive about $10.2 million from the Maritime Administration to rebuild the terminal's Mississippi River barge loading system. The project replaces a 50-year-old barge loader and a 70-year-old winch and raises the loadout above the 100-year floodplain.
The upgrade should speed barge loading and extend truck unloading hours during harvest, which could improve local grain throughput. The effect on national grain prices is minimal because it is a single terminal's equipment project.
