China agreed to extend suspended tariffs on Canadian lobster, crab, peas and canola meal to the end of 2028, after talks in Beijing between Canadian International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu and Chinese officials. The relief was due to expire on December 31, 2026.
In return, Canada extended remission measures on some Chinese steel and aluminum products to the same date.
Removing the expiry cliff restores predictable access for Canadian canola meal into China, supporting demand and export prices for Canadian meal. The effect is supportive for canola meal prices, though the relief was already in place.
